Affordable 5 Star Hotels in Kuala Lumpur

Seri Pacific Kuala Lumpur

seripacific

You would usually be able to book a room at this hotel at around RM220 or US67 per night before taxes. If you are lucky (like I have been), you might be even be able to get a room for less than that. I have been able to book a room at this hotel at around RM180 before tax, in the past.

Pros:

Amazing location. Walking distance from Putra LRT train station. Easy access to public transport. Located opposite The Mall, a large shopping complex.  A short 10 to 15 minutes drive away from KLCC and Bukit Bintang. Nice refurbished rooms.

Cons:

One of the older 5-star hotels in Kuala Lumpur. Does not compete well with the high standards set by new 5-start hotels such as Hilton KL or Grand Hyatt KL (then again, those rooms do cost 2 or 3 times more).

Verdict:

Amazing value, especially if you can catch their offer prices. With modest and realistic expectations, Seri Pacific gives you excellent value for your money.

Sunway Putra Hotel

If you can’t get a room at the Seri Pacific Kuala Lumpur, you can also consider getting a room at the Sunway Putra Hotel, which is just located opposite. You can usually book a room here at around RM230 or USD70 before taxes. The hotel of the building is one of the older ones in KL but the rooms and facilities have been refurbished and are well maintained.

Pros:

Convenient located, right next to the Putra LRT train station. Located right above The Mall, a large shopping mall. Plenty of public transport options nearby. 10 to 15 minutes drive away from KLCC and Bukit Bintang.

Cons:

Once again, this is one of the older 5-star hotels in KL (the building). Despite the excellent maintenance and refurbishment, this is still evident.

Verdict:

Like the Seri Pacific Hotel, do keep your expectations modest and real and you will have a good time. If you can look past the fact that this is an old-school 5-star hotel, you will enjoy this hotel. Do factor in the excellent value for money.

The Best Mid-Range & Budget Hotels in Kuala Lumpur

Hotel Sentral

hotel sentral

Prices at this hotel starts from around RM120 or USD36 per night. This simple, safe, comfortable no-frills hotel is located in the heart of Little India (Brickfields) and is perfect for those who would like to get every cent’s worth. The friendly staff, excellent location and decent rooms makes it one of the best budget hotels in the city.

Pros:

10-second walk from the KL Sentral Monorail station. 5-minute walk from the Kl Sentral Transportation Hub. Surrounded by lots of authentic local eateries. A short ride away from Chinatown. 10-15 minutes away from Bukit Bintang and KLCC. Clean comfortable rooms.

Cons:

The surroundings of the hotel is not exactly posh to say the least. The rustic environment might not suit the taste of some.

Verdict:

The location of this hotel is hard to beat regardless of whether you are traveling on business or leisure. It is especially good for those who plan to travel around a lot using public transport. The combo of a modest price tag, comfortable rooms and a good location makes this hotel hard to beat.

Hotel Geo

This hotel is located smack in the heart of Chinatown. You can get a room here from around RM140 or USD42 per night before taxes. It is a relatively new hotel and thus far has been receiving lots of great reviews.

Pros:

Within walking distance to many tourist hotspots such as Chinatown, Pasar Seni, Dataran Merdeka, Lake Gardens and many more. The Pasar Seni LRT train station is located just behind the hotel, about 20-second walk away. Comfortable rooms.

Cons:

The slightly smaller than average rooms.

Verdict:

We really think that the small room size is a small price to pay for its excellent location. At the time of writing, at this price point, it is easily the best hotel in the area.

Hotel Novotel Kuala Lumpur

novotel

Pros:

This hotel is literally located smack in the heart of the city, between two of KL’s most popular tourist hotspots, Bukit Bintang and KLCC. The hotel is located next to Pavilion Shopping Mall, and you can use the elevated, air-conditioned walkway to take a short, comfortable 10-minute walk to KLCC.

Cons:

Due to its central location, traffic around the hotel can come to a standstill during rush hours. Also starting at around RM240 or USD72 per night, before taxes, the price is not exactly modest for many.

Verdict:

If its price point is within your budget, Novotel KL is easily one of the best mid-range hotels in the area. It is one of the newest and its location is unbeatable. RM240 for a new hotel of this class (4-starts) and location is an absolute steal!
